CoastSavers Adopt-a-Beach Clean Up Safety Guidelines
Wear gloves, proper clothing, and water-resistant shoes. Do not touch medical waste, dead animals, hazardous materials or sharp objects. If you are uncertain about an item, do not touch it. Do not approach wildlife. Report hazardous items that cannot be removed to event staff. Work with a partner. Be careful of unstable banks, steep slopes, or slippery surfaces. Do not try to lift anything that is too heavy for you. Ask for help! Watch for poison oak, plants with thorns, or other natural hazards. Watch for any trucks or equipment that might be used in the project. When driving on the beach (State Parks only), stay on compacted sand. Do not drive into sand that is very soft or very wet. Be aware of tides and whether they will affect your access to trail heads. Beach logs can become slippery and may be dangerous, be aware of your surroundings. Please contact us if you have questions. PILLAR POINT ADOPTED BEACH
OLYMPIC PENINSULA PROJECTS Project Director: Lori Ferry' Assisting Manager: Vic Ferry' The Olympic Mountain EarthWisdom Circle (OMEC) has adopted Pillar Point Beach on the Strait of Juan de Fuca - working with CoastSavers.org to keep our beautiful Olympic Peninsula coastline pristine. We hope you join us for one of OMEC's clean-ups of Pillar Point beach, followed by a simple land and water blessing. If you've never been to Pillar Point, you'll feel the power there. You'll love the beauty and you will love nurturing the nature and spirit there. Contact Lori Ferry' NEXT CLEAN UP DATES April 23, 2022 (Honoring Earth Day Coastal Clean Up) July 9, 2022 (Coastal Clean Up) Sept 17, 2022 (International Coastal Clean Up) Please note that while the Olympic National Park beaches will be open for visitation and pre-registered cleanup participants, tribal beaches (Makah, Quinault, Quileute, and Hoh) will remain closed for this cleanup due to COVID. - WA Coastsavers.org Pillar Point County Park is adjacent to the Highway 112 National Scenic Byway 35miles west of Port Angeles. Once you arrive you will feel the soft breeze blowing off the water and hear the sounds of nature’s shorebirds and gulls. We will have plastic bags, plastic gloves as well as paper & pen to write down what you find and hand-in when we are done. (This helps CoastSavers with their research) Please bring anything you need for a day outdoors. Wear shoes appropriate for muddy and rocky conditions, a long sleeved shirt and a hat or other sun and wind protection. Bring your water bottle! We will hold a simple land & water blessing afterwards; if you would like to bring a drum, rattle, your voice, your prayers and intentions and any offerings please do. Although don't feel you have to; come as you are. Please read the Basic Safety Guidelines in the left hand column before you attend a Clean Up.
